>> Hi. I'm Bonnie Cha, senior editor at CNET.com, and today we are taking a First Look at the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 for T-Mobile. Now this was first announced at Fall CTIA, and it's BlackBerry's first flip phone. I know it's been overshadowed by the Storm, their first touch screen, but they realize that there are a lot of flip phone fanatics out there so they wanted to offer one in this clamshell design. On the front here, you have a nice little external display that shows the standard, your batter life, and network strength. But you can also scroll through and see your emails, missed messages, as well as missed calls and voice mail. So that's nice. On the side here you have a 3.5-millimeter jack, and you've also got a micro SD slot here. So you can load tons of videos and music. Open up the screen here, and you've got a really gorgeous display. It's really nice and sharp for viewing your emails as well as websites and videos. Over here you have a sure type keyboard, which is similar to the one you found on the pearl. I've never been a fan of it, but the good news is the keys are really spacious, and so you won't have too many mispresses. Up here you've got a little trackball navigator as well as your talk and end keys and some shortcut buttons. On the front you have a two-megapixel camera that also records video. As far as features, it's running the latest BlackBerry OS4.6, so you've got some nice, updated interfaces and icons. It's really a nice look. It's got Wi-Fi. It runs on T-Mobile's Edge network, so web browsing's a little pokey, but you can use Wi-Fi. Also, there's a "documents to go" application here, so you can now edit Word and Excel applications. Overall, this is a pretty good phone, a good BlackBerry, especially if you like the clamshell design. At launch it will be $149.99, and again, it is with T-Mobile. I'm Bonnie Cha, and this has been your First Look at the RIM Blackberry Pearl Flip 8220 for T-Mobile. ^M00:01:52 [ Music ]

RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 - black (T-Mobile) Review
Editors' rating
Good

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 features a brilliant internal display and updated interface. The smartphone continues to offer strong e-mail support and adds Documents to Go. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel camera are also onboard.

The bad: The Pearl Flip 8220 doesn't offer 3G support or GPS. The SureType keyboard also takes some acclimation.

The bottom line: While its flashier siblings may overshadow it, the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 should satiate the appetite of flip phone fanatics by bringing in a clamshell design.
