>> Hi. My name is Antuan Goodwin and this is the first look at the JVC KD-AVX 44 or El Kameleon. This singled in head unit for its DVD playback and DVX playback on encoded discs. It also supports full surround sound and dual zone if you have a rear-mounted monitor. You can also show backup camera because there's a lead for reverse. It also will allow you to integrate fully with your iPod. It's got this neat little touchscreen feature where when your hand comes close to the display which is normally black and blank, it lights up and shows you the controls so that you can touch and navigate around and when you're done and you pull your hand away, it goes back to a blank black display. This is also a Bluetooth-enabled device that enables you to do A2DP streaming from a Bluetooth-enabled MP3 player or cellphone. It also allows you to do hands-free calling once you've paired it with your cellphone. It's not the most intuitive display but after a couple of hours of fiddling around with it, it quickly becomes second nature. The good: The JVC El Kameleon KD-AVX44 is great for lovers of digital media, offering DVD/DivX-video playback and MP3/AAC/WMA playback from an iPod, USB device, or A2DP Bluetooth device. Innovative proximity-based controls create a design that won't clutter the vehicle's interior.
The bad: Button-free interface can be sluggish to accept inputs, such as quickly raising or lowering the volume. Included screen is too small to be used for extended viewing.
The bottom line: The vast array of features offered by the JVC El Kameleon KD-AVX44 creates a car audio experience that rivals all but the best preinstalled receivers.
