That\'92s because iTunes trashes each backup on the fly once a new one starts. You probably don\'92t want that.\ \ So you have a few options. For the Mac, check out this little app called DisableBackup from EYE-Dak-dot-D-E. It\'92s free and you can download it from their website. \ \ What\'92s nice about it is that you won\'92t have to go to the terminal to punch in any command line. Just open the app and click on the button if you want to run the Backup or not and iTunes will follow its lead.\ \ Just a heads up, you can always manually force iTunes to run a backup, by right clicking on it in the source column of iTunes.\ \ On Windows, we\'92ll need to locate the iTunes Preferences XML file. We\'92re showing you the path to get this file in Windows Vista. We\'92ll be posting the location of this XML file in both XP and Vista, because they\'92re at different locations on our blog at blog.cnettv.com\ \ Once you find the XML file, make a backup of it so you have an original, JUST IN CASE.\ \ Now open up the file in an XML editor like Notepad++ or ConText.\ \ Search for a section called \'93User Preferences\'94 and then paste the following XML snippet that we have here after the first \ \ After you\'92ve done that it should look like this.\ \ Then Save the file, restart iTunes and the Backup feature has been disabled.\ \ If you want to bring it back, you can remove that XML snippet from the iTunesPrefs.XML file and you\'92re good to go!\ \ I\'92m Brian Tong for CNET.com and there\'92s your Insider Secret, for saving some time, and bypassing the Backup feature in iTunes.}
