Quick Tips: Pick the right size HDTV Video Transcript

>> Buying the right size HDTV is something people really anguish over. Let me make it a little easier for you. If you buy a TV that's too small, you miss out on a lot of the immersion experience. If you buy one that's too big, you'll end up swiveling your head side to side like sitting in the front row of a movie, because HDTV's are all wide screen. And sitting too close to a TV really reveals the pixels, and that ruins the realism of the image, and that becomes a problem the larger the set. So I've taken all the differing rules on this, and averaged them together for you into what I call the rule of four. Measure the number of feet from where you sit to the front of the screen. Then multiply that by four. The number you get is the inches you want as the minimum for your screen size. And you'll probably round up to the next size TV, but don't go overboard. If the formula says you need a thirty seven, don't go buy a fifty two just because it's a great deal. HDTVs need to be the right size, not necessarily the biggest size.
