>> Let's say that you're walking through a new neighborhood, and you're just dying for some coffee. That's no problem if you've got an iPhone. I'm Jessica Delcourt from CNET Download.com, and I've got two freeware apps for the iPhone that can help you out, Where and Yelp. So like many of the location aware apps for iPhone, Where integrates with the iPhone's GPS to localize where you are. So this is roughly the part of San Francisco that we're in. On the bottom, here, you see sort of a strip for all of the mini applications that are associated with Where. Many of them, like Zipcar, are local. You'll see Yelp. Here's Buddy Beacon, which you already have to be a member of, Eventful, which shows nearby happenings. And here's the coffee I promised, Starbucks. So what happens is we can find one that's located near us. And what happens is we get another view that will let us call, get directions; share the place with a friend. Let's say we want to meet up for coffee. Or we can add it to My Places. Let's start by adding it to My Places. I also want to get directions. Directions are provided by a Google map. And here is some walking directions, here, that I can follow. And let's find gas. Gas will pop up on the map. Here's something that's kind of neat. We've got a sky map. I'll choose the Western sky. It's not very interactive. That's pretty much what you've got. Here's another kind of cool thing. It's called "Hey, what's that?" And it will sort of show you the view of the mountain ranges nearby. One thing that I've noticed about where is that it might seem really hard to get back to the main page. You can't double click down there. What you do is you click on the map, and that will take you back. Finally, I want to show you My Places. Remember that we bookmarked that Starbucks. And My Places will show you, on the map, where the places are that you've chosen. And then we've got Yelp. We were in the search pane. This is the home screen. We can browse by category. I promised everybody coffee, and it will show me some nearby coffee places. I can see a lot of information. I can map it. I can click to call. I can browse through the reviews, or again, I can save it in a bookmark. Yelp is also taking advantage of the GPS in the iPhone by only showing you what's nearby. So thanks to these two apps, I found my nearest Starbucks in the neighborhood. I'm Jessica Delcourt for CNET Download.com. You've been looking at Where and Yelp. And now, I'm gonna get some coffee. ^M00:02:33 [ Music ]
