Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 9, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1918, sadly, the deadliest rail accident in United States history occurred. An inbound local train collided with an outbound express, in Nashville, Tennessee. 101 people were killed and 171 injured. Yikes. Today is also the birth date of Marc Andreessen, who was born in 1971. He is, of course, the software engineer who co-authored Mosaic and was the co-founder of Netscape Communications Corporation. After Netscape's astounding IPO in 1994, Andreessen became the poster child for would-be dot-com millionaires all over the world. His latest technology startup is Ning, an online platform that allows lets you create your own social network. That's all the million-dollar ideas we've got for today. Come on back tomorrow and we'll write you another check.
