CBS Early Show: Hot Summer Gadgets Video Transcript
>> It's time to look at some hot gadgets, which are perfect for summer and joining us from our partner CNET TV is Senior Editor Natali Del Conte. Good morning. How are you?
>> Good morning to you. I'm good.
>> So, we love cool gadgets. We love when you bring us gadgets and what kind of gadgets are you going to...
>> I have a lot of fun toys for you today.
>> Yeah.
>> So the first one here, this is a portable UV Monitor. So you take it outside and it's gonna tell you how long you can spend in the sun without getting burned.
>> Really.
>> It's really fun, so you get it...
>> So does it read what the, sort of UV intensity is?
>> It does, it does. It can tell you what temperature it is outside. You also tell it what skin type you are and how much SPF you're wearing.
>> Right.
>> And then it gives you a little timer, so it will tell you when it's time to either cover up or go inside.
>> Right. There you go.
>> Isn't it cool and it comes with this cute little strap that you can put on your beach bag as well.
>> Okay, it really, it's really one of those things, if I'm gonna go out, if I'm gonna decide to expose myself to the sun...
>> Yes.
>> This is a way that I can help monitor on my self a little bit...
>> Exactly.
>> Without overexposing.
>> Yes.
>> How about that.
>> Or you can even use it if you're sunbathing and the timer will go off and then you flip over.
>> Flip?
>> Yeah.
>> Alright, what are these here?
>> These are heart rate monitors and I like these a lot.
>> Oh, great.
>> Because, you know, they monitor your workout, so if you're going hiking or running...
>> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> Or camping or whatever, they're gonna give you your heart rate and your work out measures.
>> Right.
>> But it also has GPS, so you're not gonna get lost if you go on hikes and it can tell you how far you've gone based on GPS. So it will tell you if I'm ...
>> May I ask you a question? Because I thought that you know, this is how backward I am.
>> Yeah.
>> Because a couple of years ago, you used to have to wear this thing around your chest and everything else.
>> You still do.
>> You still do?
>> You still do. We didn't put the straps out today, but you still have to use one of those straps. They're ugly looking. Actually, this is my personal ones, so it's really sweaty. So I didn't bring it on today.
>> Oh, it's -- so it's messy. So you still have to wear that thing.
>> Yes.
>> And is it wired to it or it's a wireless?
>> It's a wireless transmitter.
>> Now what is this here?
>> This is the Olympus Stylus 1030 and I love this camera because it's so durable. So if you're gonna take it to the beach or the pool this week...
>> A-ha, right.
>> You can drop it and you can dunk it underwater.
>> Seriously?
>> Drop it. Go ahead.
>> Okay.
>> It can withstand the drop of six-feet and they can...
>> Wait, wait, wait, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, are you ready for this?
>> Go for it.
>> Three, two, one.
>> Nothing is gonna happen. In fact, if you even stuck it -- I can stuck my hand in here 'cause I'm wear -- oh, okay, well there you go. I didn't want you to get your nice cufflinks wet, but...
>> Yeah, it's all right.
>> It can still take pictures underwater.
>> Show me.
>> You can go up to -- okay, let's turn it on.
>> Prove it, yeah.
>> We're dripping all over the place.
>> That's what we do here.
>> And I'm gonna turn it on right here.
>> Right.
>> And I'm gonna just take a picture.
>> Right.
>> See. So it still works.
>> So that one -- that's pretty cool.
>> Nothing's gonna happen.
>> Alright.
>> It can also withstand a drop of 6-feet. So if I'm handing it off to you...
>> Right.
>> And we accidentally just don't connect with our hands and it drops on the pavement...
>> Yeah.
>> It's gonna be totally fine.
>> Look at that. That's pretty cool.
>> Cheers.
>> Yeah.
>> I think you turned it off.
>> Yeah, I did probably -- yeah. That's what that is.
>> Would have been a good picture.
>> Oh, this is the power -- oh, there you go.
>> Yeah.
>> Look at that. It takes a lookening and keeps on taking.
>> It really does. I love this camera.
>> I like that.
>> It's 10-megapixels, so it's a pretty formidable camera.
>> This is a pretty decent camera.
>> Yeah.
>> And you can drop it. How many -- is this your personal camera?
>> It's not. Go ahead. And it's still going.
>> Wow.
>> It actually took the picture of the carpet there, but...
>> Alright.
>> It's still totally fine.
>> I'm loving that. Okay.
>> I like this camera a lot.
>> Now what's this -- what's the deal over here?
>> So this is the Flip Mino. This is the second generation of pretty ultra portable and really budget-looking camcorder, so it's digital.
>> Right.
>> I'm gonna use this to...
>> Okay.
>> Wipe off my hands before I get it to it. The great thing about this is that it's so easy. If you look at the back, it's just Record and Stop Record.
>> Right.
>> And also you don't need a memory card. You don't need a cord to set it up...
>> Wow.
>> When you wanna put the videos on your computer.
>> Right.
>> You just slip it up right there.
>> Oh, look at that.
>> On its own USB port...
>> Oh, man.
>> And it goes straight into your laptop.
>> What a bang -- whew.
>> So nothing to lose there. So I just really like this and it's only $179 -- very cheap.
>> There you go. If you put this on it, it will never get lost and we'll always know where it is.
>> There you go. We'll always know where it is.
>> There you go. Alright, Natali Del Conte, thanks so much.
>> My pleasure.
>> Very good. You're watching the Early Show on CBS.
