>> Hi, I'm Kent German Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today, we're taking a first look at the Samsung SGH-T339 this is new phone for T-mobile service. This phone equipped Wi-Fi so it is compatible with T-Mobile's Hotspot@Home service. What that is if you have router in your house, wireless router, you can actually make calls over Wi-Fi, sort of like a VoIP call. Actually those calls do not count from your cellular minute, so you can make pretty much free calls when you're at home. The reception can be better of course if you have bad reception--a cell reception in your home. And the great thing is when you live your house and when you come home, you gonna switch seamlessly between VoIP calls and regular cellular calls. So it's kinda nice feature, great, with kinda convenient, affordable way to really combine landline and cellphone. So this is the one of the newest phones that T-Mobile has offered for this service. It is a basic flip phone. On the outside, they have an external display that support color. Here above, you have a camera lens display where [unintelligible] view finder for advantage shots but there is no flash. Prebasic controls on the side just the volume control. There is a charger jack and headset jack as well and micro SD slot and a camera button. So pretty simple on the outside but didn't like the red color, it is kinda glossy as well. Inside, nice internal display, not the greatest resolution around but perfectly fine for this caliber phone. We move down to the navigation controls. These were very spacious, very big, they are flat with the surface of the phone, but I really found that I can get in and use them well especially this talk and end keys that are gigantic. Didn't like the contrast and color scheme here in the keypad. You can see that it is black and also a dark gray. So these make for a nice visual effect. Also the numbers in the keys are really large so if you may be on visual impairments, I'm gonna look at this phone. Inside, you have a mega pixel camera, bluetooth, also those midrange features you might expect but again this Wi-Fi is really what's attractive about this phone and it's not the only phone out there that does support this service but if you like the red color and you like a flip phone, might be one for you. The good: The Samsung SGH-T339 has a compact, easy-to-use design and respectable call clarity. Its feature set offers Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a well-stocked camera.
The bad: The Samsung SGH-T339's display is overly bright and its call volume was rather low. Also, photo and music quality was unimpressive.
The bottom line: The Samsung SGH-T339 isn't a bad T-Mobile HotSpot @Home phone but there are better options available.
