>> Hi, I'm David Carnaway [assumed spelling], executive editor for CNET.com, and I'm here to give you a little video tour of the BOSE on ear headphones. Now these headphones sit pretty much smack dab in the middle of the BOSE headphone line. They're the tri-port with the bigger cups below this model. And then above this model you have the noise canceling models, the Quiet Comfort Two and the Quiet Comfort Three. These look a lot like the Quiet Comfort Three headphones, except they don't have noise canceling. They're nice and small though, we really like their design. They fold up for travel, and they come with a nice travel case. They sound really pretty good too. They may not sound quite as good as the Quiet Comfort Twos or the Quiet Comfort Threes, but they don't sound, those headphones don't sound twice as good, and that's how much more money they cost. Similar to the Quiet Comfort Threes, they have a padded memory foam, so they really conform to your ear, and they offer a pretty tight seal. As I said, there's no noise canceling, but just by sealing off your ear, you do block out a lot of noise. In the case you get a couple of cords, one attaches to the headphones and gives you a decent size headphone cord, and there's an extension cord. You don't get the two pronged adapter like you do with some of the BOSE headphones for airplane use, but you'll still be able to plug into the single jack on an airplane, and these would work fine in an airplane. They block a lot of the noise out, but not necessarily everything. The truth is you can find better sounding headphones for a hundred and eighty dollars. But the key thing here is the design. This really is a nice compact design. If you're used to just using the iPod ear buds or something like that, these headphones are gonna sound really good. They sound pretty detailed, have a decent amount of base. May not be quite as detailed as some of the higher end headphones out there, and not up for quite the fine bass that some of them do. The good: The Bose On-Ear headphones have a compact design, extra-comfortable cushy foam earpieces, full sound, and they fold up for compact storage in their included carrying case. Additionally, Bose offers a 30-day home trial.
The bad: While they're cheaper than Bose's noise-canceling models, they're still fairly pricey.
The bottom line: If you're looking for the best value in Bose headphones, the company's On-Ear models makes a strong case--even if they're not cheap.
