>> The practice of unlocking your iPhone is often referred to as jailbreaking, and thanks to Zibri [phonetic] we have a program called Ziphone that makes the jailbreaking process really super easy.
>> Let's take a look on how to use it. Go to www.ziphone.org and download the latest version of the software, at this recording it's 3.0. I've downloaded it, got it right here. As you can see it's free software, though you can donate to Zibri through his website or Fredrick [phonetic], who made the graphical user interface through his website. Now, Ziphone gives you a few options. You can unlock the phone, which means you can use it on non AT&T networks like Tmobile. You can jailbreak the phone, which is what we're going to do to put third party apps on it. Or you can jailbreak and unlock the phone. I have AT&T, so I'm just going to jailbreak it, so I can have the third party apps. Now, a word of warning here, you're violating your warranty when you do this, so don't expect Apple to support your iPhone if something goes wrong afterwards. You can try going to forums. You can go to www.ziphone.org to try to get help, but don't try to get help from Apple after you've tried to jailbreak. But if you're willing to go it alone, here's how to do it. It's pretty simple. [Inaudible] just going to press this one button, ah, yes, there it is in recovery mode. Now, this is the part that looks scary. The iPhone is actually being modified. The process takes about a minute. They actually say if it takes more then three minutes you're doing something wrong. All right, now we're rebooting. Keep your fingers cross, fancy little splash screen while it's installing the base installer app. Rebooting once again. I'm very nervous, [inaudible]. All right, let's see if it works. Check it out, it evens has a little link to Zibri's blog there. Installer is the app that lets you install all the other third party programs. As you can see there's a ton of programs on here. Now, don't forget that this is unauthorized by Apple, so if you need to restore the iPhone to it's natural state Ziphone has a way to do that in its software. Or if you need to upgrade the firmware, check www.ziphone.org to find out whether he's added that feature. He'll give you instructions on how to upgrade your firmware. That's it for this edition of Insider Secret. I'm Tom Merritt, www.cnet.com.
>> I can enjoy my new apps now.
