>> I'm Nicole Lee, Associate editor for CNET.com and this is the LG Glimmer from Alltel. The LG Glimmer is a very unique phone. It has a touch screen display and a slider keypad. So, if you wish to have -- these are glamour of the touch screen and the convenience of the slider keypad, you have it right here. For the touch screen itself, all the navigation is done via the touch screen. On the bottom, you get the four short-cut icons to the menu, the phone function, the messaging menu, as well as the contacts list. There's also a short cut menu to lead to your frequently used applications. The 2.8-inch display has really good color resolution. The video looks really good, photos are really good as well and when the phone is closed like this, if you use the phone function you can just use the on screen dial pad to dial and text as well. If you wanna dial and text using the actual and the physical keypad you can. As far features go, there's a 2.0-megapixel camera, there's music player, there's ED-VO, so there's like a full browser in here. However, the browser is not full HTML, instead a very simple mobile web browser, so it's not as good as the iPhone. It's not as good as the Voyager. As far as the speed goes it's really fast. You can watch Alltel's Axcess TV, so you can watch streaming TV on here. You can dial-up music on the fly, so it's really a very fast and very stylish phone. The good: The LG Glimmer is a stylish phone with a really smart concept, combining a touch-screen display plus a slider keypad. It has excellent features, including GPS navigation, EV-DO support, and a 2-megapixel camera.
The bad: The LG Glimmer offers a lackluster Web-browsing experience, and we thought the EV-DO connection could've been a lot smoother.
The bottom line: The LG Glimmer combines the glamour of a touch screen, the convenience of a slider keypad, plus high-end features to produce a top-notch phone for Alltel customers.
