>> Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior editor at CNET.com and today we're taking a First Look at the Nokia E90 Communicator. It's a big smartphone, but it has a big set of features. I'll start with the design, obviously it's really big. So it's not gonna comfortably slip into a pants pocket, but there are some benefits to the larger size. You've got this nice roomy dial pad here, so you can dial numbers, but you can also open it. And you got this really nice wide screen here that's great for viewing web pages and documents. You've got a keyboard here as well -- full QWERTY keyboards, so you can message or you know work on documents. Over all, the keypad is pretty easy to use, they have large buttons, but it's a bit stiff, so just be wary of that. Inside it's got pretty much everything a mobile professional's gonna need who work on office documents, and edit, create. It's also got e-mail, push e-mail capabilities and it works with a number of e-mail solutions. It's got Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but the big disappointment here is it doesn't support U.S. 3G bands, so you're gonna be using EDGE speeds. This is a GSM phone, so you can use it with AT&T or T-Mobile. So that -- it's a big sticky point especially when you're gonna pay $1100 for this unlocked phone. You could probably find it for a couple hundred dollars cheaper, but if you're gonna pay that price, I would want the 3G. It's available unlocked. The good: The Nokia E90 Communicator is equipped with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, and has a solid set of productivity and communication features for the business user. The Symbian smartphone also has a full QWERTY keyboard and 3.2-megapixel camera.
The bad: The Nokia E90 doesn't support U.S. 3G networks, and speakerphone volume is a bit weak. The handset is also heavy and bulky.
The bottom line: The Nokia E90 Communicator has a feature set as large as its size, satisfying the needs of the power business users. That said, we're disappointed by the lack of 3G.
