>> Hi, this is Jessica Dolcourt from CNET Download.com and today I've got a First Look at the Skyfire mobile browser. Two things you should know about this app. The first part is in private beta and the second is that from the looks of it, it will be a hot competitor to Opera Mini. Let's start with the basics. Skyfire wanted to create a mobile browser that was just like a desktop browser, something completely familiar and intuitive. And guess what, it is. You see its simple design with the search bar and some links and you know exactly what to do. Like Opera Mini, Skyfire comes with a mouse that you can use to open your Bookmarks and History. Here, it's done you a little favor by providing links to popular news, sport and social network sites it thinks you want. When you go into a page, you see that it's full screen, like a desk top browser. Since, that's next to impossible to read, they've also included, just like Opera, a way to zoom in. It's very handy. You know what else is really handy -- The search function. You can get search results for Google or Yahoo and you can also see the results for images, videos and maps. Video is something that Skyfire is really proud of. Unlike other mobile browsers, it supports Flash and while that's great in concept, it still needs a little bit of work in reality. The video is pixilated at my tests and it didn't fit the screen well on my test handset, even when I zoomed in. I would like to see some automatic resizing and a way to play videos in landscape view. Other than that, there's really not that much more to it. In the menu you can mute audio, go straight to a web address, skip to the start page, refresh the screen and set to smart fit, which is the zoom-in mode. Skyfire is currently only available on Windows Mobile phones and you'll need to sign up for the private beta by going to Skyfire's site. That's www.skyfire.com.
