>> I'm Brian Cooley with a quick tip on taking better photos with your digital camera. Quick, when do you use flash? When it's too dark right? But not always. There's a technique called fill flash which is using a flash when it's actually quite bright. Let's say you're in an outdoor scene taking a photo of something bright. Odds are something near it, something in your picture, is going to be in shadow and is gonna come out extraordinarily dark. To even that out you use fill flash. You force your camera to turn its flash on. There are various ways of doing it but look for the flash icon, look for a button that makes the flash go on and then take your picture in daylight with the flash. Out here in bright sunlight, let's have one take a picture of Catherine, but notice she's got sun behind her and some fairly light pavement and other structures. Let's see how that photo comes out when I just take it without the flash the normal way you would, because it's after all, very bright. You don't need a flash do you? Yeah you do, look at that picture. She's too dark, the background's brighter. I'm gonna force the flash and in this case it actually pops up on this camera to give you a good illustration. Now take the exact same picture, nothing else has changed, and notice how she's now well lit and the background doesn't dominate anymore.
