Smart has revealed a new version of its FourTwo at the 2008 LA Auto Show, the FourTwo Brabus. Brabus being the German tuning house most famous for their close ties with Mercedes-Benz. If the idea of a performance variant of the superthrifty FourTwo seems a bit odd, you're not alone. We're looking at with a bit of skepticism as well.

Particularly because the FourTwo Brabus features no more power than the standard 71 horsepower FourTwo, choosing to boost performance in the suspension and aesthetic departments instead.

The FourTwo Brabus will be released in limited quantities and made available only to current participants in the Smart reservation holders, who can choose to upgrade their reservations to Brabus status for an additional cost. The FourTwo Brabus is only available in black or silver, and can be had as a coupe for $17,990 or as a cabriolet for $20,990.

They still have not addressed the fundamental flaw with the vehicle: an awful transmission and engine. Give me a six speed manual and a turbo diesel and it might be a car worth considering, lose some weight and it would be a home run.

A Brabus tuned Smart... oh what a joke. The SmartforTwo has such appalling ride and dynamics that adding any more power to it would be akin to trying to drive a washing machine during a spin cycle... so luckily they didn't add more power. Unless they've dramatically improved handling, what is this Brabus for?
