CNET Top 5: iPhone Dream Features

CNET Top 5 iPhone dream features still(Credit: CNET TV)
Did a little countdown of the features that should be in the next iPhone and I think it's a pretty comprehensive list. Justin Eckhouse, our CNET TV product manager suggested it, after playing around with our in-house iPhone. But you may and probably do feel differently. Take a look at the video, then come back to this post and lets us know what features you think we left off the list. Come on, you know you want to tell us you told us so.

The Camera!
by rohit2.menon August 20, 2007 5:01 AM PDT
The camera in the iPhone is so weak! Come on, 2 megapixel! That's like so 2005, Apple.

I think they should bring in a 3 or 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus. The phone looks beautiful, and the pictures need to look beautiful too.

Hopefully all these enhancements take place before the Middle East release of this phone.

SD MEMORY SLOT

The iPhnone should have an sd card slot or micro or mini for more memory, I mean it is a smart phone you will have a ton of stuff on it.

Video Phone
by SenorSexyPants August 20, 2007 10:30 AM PDT
Ok, the iPhone can take pictures, browse both the moble version of the internet and the "real" version of the internet, allow you to listen to music, and talk to people. This is all well and good, but Apple is only combining what exists into one device.

If Apple really wanted to be innovative, the iPhone would have video conferencing capabilities (i.e. video phone). If the iPhone had video phone capabilities, the iPhone could be the new mass mobile video device.

That is when I would put down my money.

GPS for sure

My own top 5 for the features of the next generation iphone would have to be as follows:
1) GPS
2) 3G
3) Video capabilities
4) Ring tones
5) Higher capacities, same price (8gb and 16gb)
That would be one sweet phone and that is what i am waiting for.

OMG are you kidding me?
by DriveThruRecFan August 24, 2007 5:30 PM PDT
the feature the iPhone really needs and really pisses me off that it doesnt:

SENDING A SMS TO MULTIPLE RECIPIENTS.

omg you have to type the same message over and over just to send it to multiple people.

you can send an e-mail to mulitple recipients, but not SMS? thats ridiculous!

iPhone needs Search and Tasks
by macside August 26, 2007 6:21 AM PDT
Two features omitted from the iPhone that are just inexcusable.

1. Search. I have more than 2 thousand contacts on my iPhone. Scrolling to find a subset of information or getting to a particular record is NOT effective using scroll. I may want a list of all contacts that are employed by CNET. On a WM device, this is a breeze. One would think that with Spotlight, this would have been a primo feature. To add insult to injury, with the iPhone, you can perform such a search, but only in the google map screen.

2. Tasks. Enough said.

I love my iPhone. I can't wait till Apple allows me to do work with it.

BTW. These upgrades shouldn't be a hardware change - they should be done in software.
